Destiny 2 is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows platforms on September 8, 2017. The sequel to 2014’s Destiny and its subsequent expansions, the game takes place in a shared world and features a “hub” area called The Last City. Players assume the role of a Guardian, protectors of the Last City and humanity from different alien races. Guardians are tasked with reviving a celestial being called the Traveler, while exacting vengeance upon the antagonists responsible for their own downfall.
Destiny 2 incorporates elements from massively multiplayer online games, role-playing games and first-person shooters. Combat consists of weapons, grenades and melee attacks, with special abilities granted by a character’s subclass. Players explore a variety of planetary environments such as Earth, Mercury, Nessus, Io and Titan. Players are able to improve their characters’ power level by gaining experience points and equipping items, which can be gained through completing missions, raids and public events, or purchased from vendors. The most popular activities in the game are the player versus environment (PvE) activities, and player versus player (PvP) activities.
